Business Northumberland have been given the go ahead to continue to deliver fully funded support to SMEs in the North East until 2022.
Over the previous three years, Business Northumberland, which is delivered by Advance Northumberland, have hosted various workshops, events and networking meetings for the benefit of over 400 small businesses across the region. The project provides 12 hours of support to registered businesses and, as a result, over 100 new jobs have been created.
The updated programme of support, which is set to launch in July 2019, will focus on supporting local businesses to increase their digital skills will cover a range of subjects including; Digital Marketing Strategy, Social Media, Websites and Search Engines, E-commerce and Microsoft Office Software.
The need to bridge the digital skills gap is more important than ever with studies demonstrating that less than 15% of SMEs have websites which enable their customers to buy directly from them online. However, those that do grow an average of five times faster. The project has been designed to support businesses to grow their own confidence in their digital capabilities.
Martyn Healy of Sleep Stories, who has attended a series of digital workshops praised the programme for the development of his digital skills. “Outstanding training and guidance for the digital world…I’ve attended several sessions in Hexham and grown my skills exponentially”.
The programme provides support to small and medium enterprises across the North East who are looking to sustain and grow their business and is match funded by the England European Regional Development Fund and Advance Northumberland, so there is no cost to eligible businesses.
