A Northumberland manufacturer is set to grow their business to a turnover of more than £5m within two years.
Advance Northumberland’s Business Northumberland programme has helped Arian EMS Ltd, a rapidly growing local manufacturer of electronic assemblies, to secure growth funding and premises to aid its ambitious development plans.
Arian EMS Ltd began trading in 2017 from its base in Ashington. In its first full year of trading turnover exceeded £3m, and is set to continue past the £5m mark within 18 months as the customer base widens and the sales pipeline grows.
Managing Director Malcolm Humble has grown the circuit board assembly plant from a start-up to 42 staff in little over a year. During its short operational history the company has trained its entire production staff to IPC610 standard, which is an internationally recognised qualification within the electronics industry, and has set up an apprenticeship programme to offer developmental opportunities to 7 young employees.
Advance Northumberland’s business team assisted Arian EMS Ltd from the onset and worked closely with the company to understand its needs and help provide solutions. The team helped Arian to win grant funding of £130k from the RDPE Business Growth Fund towards the cost of production equipment that has been key to its growth. They also helped to secure a factory unit on Wansbeck Business Park in Ashington. The 16,000 sq ft facility provides 12,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and 4,000 sq ft of office and new product development space.
Malcolm Humble attributes the company's success to its commitment to good business processes, staff development and a strong emphasis on customer care all of which have been integral to its rapid growth. Customers get a real feel for this when they visit the factory and the confidence that it engenders tends to result in a very high conversion rate of enquiries into orders. He said: "We don’t employ a Sales Manager or a Business Development Manager most of the business comes from referrals. Once we get a potential customer here the fantastic staff and facility does the rest. Investing in our people and in state of the art equipment is money well spent and our customers appreciate this approach”.
Richard Wearmouth Chair of Advance Northumberland said: "Arian EMS Ltd is a fantastic success story for Ashington and Northumberland. Their rapid growth is a sign that manufacturing is thriving in our County and shows that when people decide to invest here that there are the skilled people to step up to the mark”.
