SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the process of optimising your website in order to appear higher in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
Google handles, on average, over 40,000 searches every second - that’s over 3.5 billion per day and 1.2 trillion ‘Googles’ a year! Making sure your website is a part of that traffic source can be a massive marketing benefit to your business.
When someone types a search into Google, the search engine tries to match the best result (solution) with the query (problem). Helping Google to understand what your website talks about...or how it can help people...is a bit part of what we look at when reviewing SEO.
From choosing the right title, to making sure all parts of the page can be properly accessed, SEO can be the difference between your website being found by your prospective customer, and not.
Without correct SEO practices, your webpage may not even be listed in Google, and this means that it can never be found via search. With around 75% of customers using search to start their online transactions, it means that businesses need to be asking "can I afford not to be found easily?".
SEO can fall into a couple of different categories -
Branded SEO - this is where someone types in your company name into a search engine
Non-branded SEO - this is where someone types in your product or service.
It is usually non-branded SEO that businesses need to focus on as this is what can bring in new customers that previously, are likely to have not heard of you or your brand.
