Published: 21 January 2020

Shamshad, a speaker, presenter and coach, set up Simply Diet after working in the NHS for two decades as a specialist dietitian. She noticed that the evolving work environment was increasingly demanding and was putting a strain on people’s mental and physical health. With 73% of employees nationwide suffering at least one work-related stress, Shamshad knew she could improve the health of people in the workplace with her knowledge and experience.

Using her dietary knowledge, Shamshad set up SimplyDiet to help busy stressed people to effortlessly take back control of their eating and lifestyle habits to look great feel great and have more energy.

Although an expert in her field, Shamshad knew she would benefit from new digital skills in order to make her business a success and needed help with digital marketing to help grow her business to reach the millions of social media users. Shamshad heard about the support available from Business Northumberland at a network event. She contacted a Business Growth Adviser, where they discussed the future of Simply Diet.

After receiving nearly 40 hours of free support from Business Northumberland through workshops including Introduction to Digital Marketing, Creating Engaging Digital and Instagram training, Shamshad now has the confidence to build her businesses and social media presence.

She says: “Business Northumberland have taken the mystery out of digital marketing for me. The courses are practical and hands on. I feel so much more confident on social media now and that has really helped my business.”

Business Northumberland provides support to small and medium enterprises across the North East who are looking to sustain and grow their business online. The fully funded support programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Advance Northumberland, so there is no cost to eligible businesses when accessing the support.

Workshops are running across the whole county in various locations. All information can be found on the Business Northumberland website
